Car Smashes Into Morris Co. Restaurant Amid Blizzard, Police Say

The car lost traction and slid into the restaurant's storefront, police said.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Morris County restaurant is temporarily closed after a car crashed into it during this week’s record-breaking blizzard.

On Sunday, around 9 p.m., police were called to a restaurant on Main Street in Boonton on reports of a crash.

Authorities discovered that a Subaru Legacy had crashed into Chili Willies, a 38-year-old establishment located at 702 Main Street. The driver of the Subaru, Caitlin Lewis, was able to remove the car from the restaurant’s front entrance and park nearby.

Lewis told police that she’d tried to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Church Street and Main Street, but failed when the Subaru lost traction due to the heavy snowfall on the roadways.

The car slid down Church Street before crashing into Chili Willies at the Church and Main Street intersection, police said.

The restaurant was closed at the time of the crash, and nobody, including Lewis, was injured, police said.

Restaurant representatives said the storefront, including its windows, and interior plants and tables were ā€œdestroyed.ā€

Chili Willies will be closed as repairs are made. It’s not clear exactly when it will be reopened.
