'Christmas For The Homeless' Village Popping Up In Morristown

The event will feature a preview of LavaLove, a mobile trailer that gives homeless people a place to shower.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — It's the season of giving, and one Christmas event will combine the Christmas spirit with help for the homeless. Local nonprofit POWER CHANGES LIVES will hold Christmas for the Homeless, a pop-up care village that will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Morristown.

All homeless guests will receive a backpack with hygiene kits, a hot shower, clothing, a hot meal and access to healthcare providers on-site. The public can also attend for free, bringing awareness and support to New Jersey's homeless population.

The event will also feature a preview of LavaLove®, a mobile trailer that gives homeless people a place to shower. The 29-foot trailer provides a 3-unit shower, sink, toilet, washing machine, dryer, barber station and resource room for ancillary services. A ribbon-cutting ceremony has been planned for January. After the trailer's deployment in Morristown, LavaLove will expand to Newark, New York City, Paterson, Phillipsburg (Warren County), Trenton and Atlantic City.

Community partners are invited to sponsor tables at no cost at the pop-up village.

All who wish to attend must RSVP by Thursday. Dinner will be served to all guests. Guests should bring a wrapped gift for the homeless.
