Colonial Baseball Stars Get Countywide Recognition For Stellar Season

Mark Turi, Mike Palestri named among the top players in Morris County.

If a baseball team of the best players from the county were ever assembled, Morristown would be well represented, thanks to Mark Turi and Mike Palestri.

The hard-hitting combo has been named to the Daily Record All-County Baseball Team, according to the newspaper’s website, and rightfully so. Both seniors had outstanding seasons to match their counterparts from around the area.

Turi, a first baseman who will attend Tulane in the fall, led the Colonials with a .447 batting average, tallying 39 hits and 24 runs batted in, the report said. He also helped his team by scoring 16 runs.

Palestri, named to a utility role on the county team, is heading to Lehigh University on a baseball scholarship, and his numbers prove why. The righty notched a 3-1 pitching record with 53 strikeouts and a 1.71 earned run average, the report said. He didn’t trade in pitching for offense, though, as he hit .380 and scored 23 runs, the report said.

Both seniors graduate Morristown High School on Wednesday, June 25.
