Direct Support Professionals Deserve Higher Wages
Too many DSPs are leaving because of low wages, which is leaving us without the staff we rely upon. NJ lawmakers must increase DSP wages

More money is needed in the New Jersey state budget to raise wages for direct support professionals (DSPs). Far too many DSPs are leaving the field because the pay is too low for the hard work that they do. We used to have a lot of staff, but now people are leaving all the time. You get to know a DSP and then they leave. It’s hard. I’m worried that soon there won’t be any DSPs to support me in all the activities I love to do like go out to dinner, attend self-advocacy meetings, go on picnics, and have fun. The state needs to stop kicking the can down the road and give these important workers a raise. They have a lot of responsibility and it is time lawmakers recognize that and give them the money they deserve.
