The Passaic River, whose waters rise in Mendham and meander approximately 80 miles to Newark Bay, will be the topic of conversation at the Great Swamp Watershed Association’s next Breakfast Briefing event on April 9, 2013.
The guest speaker this morning will be Dr. Meiyin Wu, Associate Professor of Biology and Molecular Biology, and the Director of the Passaic River Institute (PRI) at Montclair State University.
Dr. Wu will present on PRI’s continuing mission to further environmental research and education, and to help find solutions for environmental problems within the Passaic River Basin, including tributaries and surrounding watershed lands. Likely topics for discussion will include the "river continuum" that sends water from the Great Swamp watershed, into the Passaic River, and out into the ocean at Newark Bay; ongoing pollution cleanup at the Diamond Alkali superfund site along the Passaic in Essex County; and regional flooding issues.
