Under the leadership of Rotary Committee chair Stephen Ellerman, the event brought together passionate local volunteer experts and residents tired of today's "throwaway culture." From fixed hemlines to revived laptops, the Parish House was buzzing with collaboration, tinkering, and the shared joy of problem-solving.

Event Highlights & Community Impact

The first-ever event saw a steady stream of community members carrying everything from beloved wardrobe pieces to malfunctioning electronics. Thanks to the dedication of local handy-persons, the Repair Café successfully addressed:

Technology & Electronics: Volunteer tech enthusiasts solved various minor laptop issues and software troubleshooting bugs, saving residents costly IT fees. All manner of electronic devices with issues were repaired.

Clothing & Textiles: The sewing station stayed busy all morning, handling custom hemming, patching, and minor repairs to keep wearable garments out of the trash.

Timepieces: Dozens of watches and clocks were given a second wind with quick, on-site battery replacements. Other manner of jewelry were brought back to wearable condition.

Bicycles: Local cyclists rolled away safely after receiving brake adjustments and flat tire fixes just in time for summer riding.

Knives and bladed utensils : Tools, blades and knives were sharpened back to new like condition.

Woodwork: Small furniture and other wooden objects were revitalized.

"The energy in the room today proved that Morristown residents truly care about sustainability," said Aaron Oliver, President of the Morristown Rotary. "We didn't just fix items today; we shared skills, saved our neighbors money, and built a stronger, greener community connection."

Looking to the Future

Following the overwhelming success of this inaugural event, the Morristown Rotary plans to make the Repair Café a recurring staple of its community outreach. As the club prepares to transition leadership to incoming President Will Draper on July 1st, keeping Morristown green and connected remains a top priority.

The Rotary Club extends its deepest gratitude to the Morristown Presbyterian Church for hosting, to organizer Steve Ellerman, and to the incredible volunteer fixers who donated their time and expertise to make the day a triumph.
