Gran Fondo to Create Grand Detours Sunday in Morristown

It’s one of the area’s biggest annual sporting events and attracts crowds from the region. It’s also the reason behind Sunday’s major road detour route in Morristown.

The Gran Fondo Cycling Event will kick off Sunday, Sept. 7, forcing the closure or detour of a half dozen streets, according to police.

Speedwell Avenue will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Spring Street to North Park Place (on the Morristown Green) for the event, police said.

Detours will be in place on the Green, Speedwell Avenue, Cattano Avenue, Spring Street, Morris Street, Water Street, and Washington Street until about 10 a.m., or until all riders have cleared the roadways.

Police are advising motorists to expect delays in these areas and plan alternate routes if possible.
