Grocery Shopping Assistance Available To County Seniors, Disabled
A partnership between Morris County officials, non-profit Jersey Cares links people in need with volunteers who provide shopping services.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ – As the coronavirus pandemic continues to leave certain local residents more vulnerable than others, the Morris County Office on Aging, Disabilities and Community Programming has partnered with the not-for-profit group Jersey Cares to provide volunteers to do grocery shopping for older or disabled residents.
The program, officials said in a news release on Wednesday, is designed to keep vulnerable residents out of harm’s way as much as possible in local supermarkets and other food markets. Participants in the program must be over the age of 60 or are disabled between the ages of 18-59 and in need of assistance.
Residents requesting shopping assistance can either call the ADRC hotline at (973) 285-6848 or 1-800-564-4656. Officials announced that volunteer shoppers have been vetted by Jersey Cares.

“We are very glad to have county government partner with Jersey Cares in this important response to the COVID-19 crisis, which has especially impacted our older and disabled populations here in Morris County,’’ Freeholder Kathy DeFillippo, the county governing board’s liaison on social services issues, said in the news release.
Program participants are required to provide contact information, a grocery list, and a maximum budget for each shopping trip. More specific program information will be provided when participants call for the service.
