GROUNDBREAKING AT WALLMAN WAY SITE IN MOUNT OLIVE
A groundbreaking ceremony was held by Morris Habitat for Humanity at 18-20 Wallman Way in the Budd Lake section of Mount Olive
On October 26, 2015, a groundbreaking ceremony was held by Morris Habitat for Humanity at 18-20 Wallman Way in the Budd Lake section of Mount Olive. Two families, the Maurino and McLaughlin’s, are thrilled to have been chosen by lottery to own these new homes once they are completed. Morris Habitat will build two new single-family homes, each with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on vacant lots on Wallman Way in Mount Olive Township. The houses will be accessible, handicapped-adaptable and ENERGY STAR certified for energy efficiency. Green or reusable building materials will be used whenever feasible. This will be a dream come true for two very happy families who expect to be heavily involved in helping to build their new homes. Mount Olive Township generously donated from its Affordable Housing Trust Fund toward the purchase of the building lots. Additional funding includes governmental grants from the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) and the Self-help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP). The remaining funds will be raised through grants and donations of materials. At the groundbreaking local officials, Morris Habitat Board members, staff, volunteers and the two families came out to celebrate the official start of construction on this site. The families were introduced and welcomed into the Mt. Olive neighborhood. The planned completion date is Spring of 2017 To meet this date, many volunteers will be needed to help! In addition to construction volunteers (no experience needed) there are also trained volunteers assigned to help each family feel welcomed and at home in their new communities (training provided).
