Habitat For Humanity Breaks Ground On Morristown Project

The project will build 10 housing units for families in need.

MORRISTOWN, NJ— Morris Habitat for Humanity broke ground on a new housing project in Morristown on Friday.

The new project on Martin Luther King Ave will have ten units. The families who will be moving in were at the ceremony.

“We are proud to be supporting this project, which provides a much deserved opportunity for homeownership to hard working families," Morristown Mayor Timothy Dougherty said. "This project is a prime example of what can be accomplished when when public and private entities work together for the good of the community.”

The ten condos should be completed by the end of 2017. Two and three bedroom units will be available, and will have one to two and a half bathrooms. Each unit will have a basement storage area. Some first floor units are handicap accessible/adaptable.

The two bedroom units will sell for $155,00 and the 3 bedroom units will be $170,000.

Zero-interest 30-year fixed mortgages will be held by Morris Habitat. The homes will have a 30-year deed restriction that allows modest equity upon resale, but mandates that they be sold at an affordable price to other income-eligible families.

The families, who were selected by lottery in November 2016, will contribute a minimum of 300 hours toward building the homes.
