Morristown On NJ's Redrawn District Map: How It Will Impact Elections

MORRISTOWN, NJ — The New Jersey Legislative Apportionment Commission adopted a new legislative map for the Garden State, which will be in place beginning with the 2023 elections. Barring any further legal challenges, Morristown will remain in the 25th District, but the town's State House representation could look different.

Currently, State Senator Anthony M. Bucco and Assembly Members Brian Bergen and Aura K. Dunn — all Republicans — represent the 25th District. But the new legislative map significantly changes the geographic lines in the 25th and 26th Districts.

The new map switches Bergen to the 26th District, while 26th District Assembly Member Christian Barranco — also a Republican — would flip to the 25th.

However, General Assembly terms only last two years. So by the time the redrawn map kicks in for the 2023 election, those assembly seats would be up for grabs.

The map will remain in effect until a new map gets adopted before the 2031 elections. Officials delayed its adoption by a year because of the pandemic.
