Homeowners Suspected Dead After Fire In Morris Township: Police

The preliminary, unconfirmed investigation has revealed the possibility that the fire resulted in two deaths, officials said.

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ — A large fire broke out early Friday morning in a home on Normandy Heights Road in Morris Township resulting in two possible deaths, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

The preliminary, unconfirmed investigation has revealed that the fire may have killed the two homeowners Robert Ricciardi, 87, and Gemma Ricciardi, 85, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, the Morris Township Police and Fire Departments were notified of an active fire at a residence on Normandy Heights Road in Morris Township at approximately 2:52 a.m. on Aug. 5, 2022.

Responders immediately began fire suppression efforts, and the fire was extinguished. Due to the extensive scope of the fire, firefighters' repeated attempts to enter the burning structure to search for victims were unsuccessful.

The investigation agencies are still looking for potential victims as well as the cause and origin of the fire, police said.
