How Would You Handle Wedding Crashers? Patch Readers React

For one N.J. bride, wedding crashers brought a smile to her face. Other Patch readers wouldn't have found it funny. How would you react?

PARSIPPANY, NJ — When we think about weddings, having someone crash it isn't usually on the list of good things that could happen. But for one New Jersey bride, wedding crashers didn't disrupt her big day and she "can't be mad because they pulled it off," her maid of honor told Patch.

Seen in the back corner in the above picture, two bold wedding crashers used Karen Fox's Sparta wedding as a chance to enjoy themselves. Fox wasn't mad but instead found the humor in the situation.

Patch readers had a lot to say about the unusual story. For some, it was no laughing matter. Multiple readers suggested passing the bill for their meals along to the crashers, and others had some harsher ideas:

  • They should be buying HER the round of drinks!
  • Buy them a drink and hand the a bill. Lol
  • The couple should sue the wedding hall

Others shared stories of their own wedding crashers, some not as lighthearted as the Foxs':

  • Please don't glamorize crashing a wedding, we had weddings crashers that were just awful and so rude to our guests.
  • My cousins crashed the wedding next door during our wedding. Now many years later, we met the couple from the other wedding and they gave me a picture of my cousins at their wedding

Some took issue with the $1 bill taped inside the note left by the crashers. Although likely done in jest, some felt more was necessary,

  • Yikes. Probably "professional crashers" who get free meals and a free date every weekend. A dollar doesn't cut it.
  • Asked for extra seats and gave a whole $1? I'd laugh but not a happy laugh. Bet it cost her a couple hundred bucks for their dinners.
  • It would be a lot cooler if they had left a decent gift. Dinner, drinks, dancing, dessert.....and they leave a dollar? That's not cool at all.

But mostly, readers praised Fox for taking the crashers in stride, and agreed it was funny:

  • That's funny! It also give this bride a great wedding story to tell for years to come! It's going to top anything that didn't go right that day. I don't know how I'd react so I give the bride credit for being so cool about it! Congrats Fox's!
  • What a fun story! No harm no foul. Kudos to the bride is correct.
  • To the bride: you have a LOT of class...don't ever lose that!
  • Just Cool! Agree.... Bride has a great sense of humor!
