Husband Killed Wife, Then Self in Morris Murder-Suicide, Prosecutor Says

Roxbury couple found dead in their home Monday night.

The cause of death for a Roxbury Township couple has been deemed a murder-suicide after more than two days of investigation, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp announced Wednesday.

Jay DeSombre, 65, of the Landing section of the township killed his wife, Cheryl DeSombre, 48, with gunshots before turning the weapon on himself, Knapp said.

Officers responded to the couple’s home at 527 Wills Road at 6:10 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, where they found both husband and wife deceased.

The marital murder-suicide is the third one in the county since June. All deceased have come by way of gunshot wounds, and in each of the three instances, it has been determined the husband killed the wife before turning the gun on himself.
