ICE Shot Out Tires Of Suspect Who Tried To Run Over Officer In NJ Suburb, Report Says

One report said the suspect rammed a law enforcement vehicle during the arrest.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A shooting related to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations is being investigated in a Morris County suburb, according to the Acting NJ Attorney General.

NJ Acting Attorney General Jennifer Davenport announced Tuesday that at least one shot was fired in Roxbury during an ICE operation, specifically from the federal agency’s Enforcement and Removal Operations division (ERO).

According to News12 New Jersey agents were attempting to arrest Jesus Fabian Lopez-Banegas who the Department Of Homeland Security says has a criminal history that includes drug trafficking, drug possession and driving under the influence.

News12 reported that while agents were trying to arrest Lopez-Banegas, he rammed into a law enforcement vehicle and then attempted to run an officer over and that officer shot out the tires of Lopez-Banegas’s vehicle ā€œto stop the threat.ā€

The scene of the shooting has been secured by local police, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Department.

An investigation is being launched by the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability.

It's not clear at this time exactly where the incident took place in Roxbury.

Roxbury has been dealing with ICE concerns since the agency announced plans to turn a local warehouse into an ICE detention center.
