Community Soup Kitchen & Outreach Center to Hold Hunger Walk 2017 - October 15 at 1 p.m.

Morristown, NJ - The Community Soup Kitchen & Outreach Center will hold its 21st annual Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 15th at 1 p.m. All proceeds from the 5K pledge walk will help feed our struggling neighbors – veterans, homeless, working poor and our elderly guests.

Hunger Walk 2017 provides participants with an opportunity to raise funds for the Community Soup Kitchen (CSK) and gain an understanding of hunger and homelessness in our area. Walkers will track CSK guests’ experiences through story cards distributed during the event. The CSK hopes to raise more than $100,000 at Hunger Walk 2017 through the participation and sponsorship of local residents, congregations, corporations and students (students can earn four hours of community service). All funds will directly support crucial CSK programs: daily breakfast and lunch, Free Farmer’s Markets three times a week, meals for local summer camp children and Outreach Center services to help our guests become self-sufficient.

Sponsors for Hunger Walk 2017 include Northwestern Mutual of Morristown, Peapack-Gladstone Bank, Travelers, Covanta, Crum & Forster, Celebrity Motor Car Company, Investors Bank, Lanca Sales, Morristown Medical Center, Drinker Biddle, The Westin, Blue Morel, Rod’s Steakhouse and Open Road Auto Group.

Last year more than 1,000 walkers from local schools, corporate teams, congregations and families helped the CSK raise more than $100,000. The participation of these supporters made a profound difference in the lives of the homeless and working poor in our area.

The Community Soup Kitchen & Outreach Center is a nonprofit organization that receives no government funding. In its 33-year history, the CSK has never missed a day serving meals. Last year, more than 75,000 breakfast and lunches were served and more than 475,000 pounds of food were distributed. So far this year, nearly 6,000 guest referrals were made for social and medical services – double the number for 2016. The CSK’s Outreach Center provides daily assistance in our dining room as well as access to mental health professionals, substance abuse counselors, veteran outreach, homeless teen outreach, job counselors, nursing and medical care and English as a Second Language classes.
