Lawsuit: Morristown Employee Sexually Harassed by Former Colleague

Zoning Department worker alleges issues went on for four years, report says.

A female employee for the town of Morristown says a former colleague sexually harassed and stalked her for four years both in and out of the workplace, and has filed suit against the municipality.

According to dailyrecord.com, Zoning Department administrative assistant Martha Betancourt is suing the town because now-retired zoning officer John Fugger “incessantly” called the alleged victim on her personal cell phone, asked her out for dates, and accused of her of being unfaithful to her husband. The lawsuit also claims Fugger, who retired in March 2013, called Betancourt vile names and also tried contacting her family members, the report said.

The reason for Betancourt suing the town, however, is because officials in Morristown were made aware of the situation but did not do enough to intercede, the report said. Fugger was suspended once in 2010 for two weeks, but continued his actions a few months after his return, and was again suspended without pay in Oct. 2012, but was able to use enough accumulated sick time to carry him through to his retirement date in March of the following year, the report said.
