Local 9/11 Rescue Puppy

Story about our dog Cody who was rescued on 9/11 2001 in NYC

I have been asked by neighbors and friends to share the story of our best friend and our sons’ best girlfriend, our dog Cody. Cody is almost 17 years old. We are not sure of her exact age, they think she was somewhere between one and a half to two years old when we adopted her from St Hubert’s in Madison in late September 2001. At that time local rescue agencies and shelters were saving dogs and cats from kill shelters in NYC which were overflowing in the aftermath of 9/11. Cody was found in NYC and brought to a shelter in Brooklyn on 9/12/2001. And then saved by St Hubert’s and brought to Madison shortly after. She has a lot of secrets that she has never shared with us. There is no history except that her life changed like many others did September 11, 2001 and the days following. Regardless of the facts we will never know, she is forever grateful and happy to be here, to be part of our family. She experienced a lot in her first year of life that made her wise beyond her years. She is calm, loving and very fun loving, even in her senior years. She spends a good part of her day, stationed in our front lawn contently watching life go by, smiling and waiting for a nice loving pet belonging to any neighbor walking by or to grin and shrug when their dog or a scooting squirrel does not show quite the same demeanor . Sometimes when a black kitty cat screeches by and jumps up and down with her back arched and Cody just lets out a big yawn I can hear her saying to herself this is nothing I’ve seen worse. So as the anniversary of that fateful day approaches we are so thankful for 15 years with Cody and all that she has taught us about love and life!
