Local Author Publishes Book

Lynne McEniry, director of CSE's academic success center, published her first book of poetry: "Some Other Wet Landscape"

Lynne McEniry, director of the College of Saint Elizabeth's Academic Success Center, recently published her first book of poetry: “Some Other Wet Landscape.

A member of the CSE staff since 1996, McEniry says her book of poems deals with both physical and metaphorical loss.

“I hope my poems inspire beauty,” says McEniry. “I hope they encourage people to think about what kind of adversities we face on our own and how we can rise from that in the midst of community.”

In addition to leading the Academic Success Center, McEniry has been instrumental in directing CSE’s FASTRAK program. This twelve-day program held before classes start exposes applicable incoming freshman to lessons on time management, study skills, note taking, technology and more.

“We introduce every aspect of the college, from mission and values to academic skills and the lay of campus, to students before the first day of classes,” says McEniry. “This way they have their feet under them, they’re secure and they’re ready to go.”

McEniry, who received her bachelor’s in English from CSE, is a first-generation college student who believes CSE provided her with a life-changing sense of community.

“I really see my whole experience as a sense of community,” says McEniry. “The College of Saint Elizabeth has really done that for me. So, it’s essential.”

McEniry will be holding a book reading for “Some Other Wet Landscape” at 6:30pm on September 13 in the Annunciation Center’s Flex Rooms in the hopes of further encouraging that sense of community.
