Lottery Open For Affordable Apartments In Morristown

The rents will range from $596 to $1,495 for a three-bedroom for those who meet household income requirements.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — A new opportunity for renters to combat the ongoing inflation crisis has arrived.

Morristown officials have announced that the lottery for affordable rentals at 175 Morris Street in the new Max on Morris housing complex is now open, and applications from those who qualify are being accepted.

Max on Morris is a four-story residential building that will open this year and will include a mix of studio units, one-bedroom units, two-bedroom units and a variety of three-bedroom low-income units.

The units include dishwashers, washers and dryers and air conditioning. The building also has a conference room, resident lounge, an outdoor courtyard with BBQ grilling stations and bike storage.

According to town officials, four new rentals are estimated to be available in Spring 2023. Rents, not including utilities include:

Three-bedroom apartments

  • one very low at $596
  • one low at $1,195
  • two moderate at $1,495

The only utility that comes included in the total rent cost is trash, officials said. Pets are allowed inside the building, but only up to two are allowed, and they are not allowed in the pool or the amenity areas at any time. Parking is available for an additional fee of $150 per space.

To fill out an application, go to www.affordableHomesNewJersey.com by Feb. 21, 2023, and add your name to the Morristown Rental Waiting List to be entered into a random lottery number drawing to determine priority order.

All income limits are listed on the Affordable Homes New Jersey website and are broken down based on household size.

Everyone is encouraged to apply, but those who reside in or work in Essex, Morris, Union, or Warren counties will receive preference, officials said.

For the non-affordable housing units, the rent prices range between $2,730 for a studio to around $4,330 for a two-bedroom. To see a full breakdown of the floor plans, click here.
