Mercedes Stolen From Greater Morristown Found, But Police Seek Suspect
Authorities found the car in Newark a day after someone stole it from a Morris Township driveway, police said.
MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ — Authorities found a Mercedes in Newark a day after someone stole it from a Morris Township driveway. But law enforcement continues to investigate the matter as they seek the suspects, according to Morris Township Police Chief Mark DiCarlo.
Someone stole the Mercedes at about 7 a.m. Thursday from a Spring Brook Road driveway while the owner warmed it up and left it unattended, police said. At around the same time, someone took low-value items from another vehicle on the same road, according to DiCarlo.
Authorities found the Mercedes unoccupied on Friday in Newark and recovered it.

Based on the investigation and communications with witnesses, police believe a white sedan dropped off the suspects who stole the Mercedes. There were two people in the sedan — both wearing sweatshirts, with the hoods on, DiCarlo said. Police don't know the suspect vehicle's year, make or model.

A witness alerted the responding officers to a possible suspect vehicle, DiCarlo said. But after pulling over the driver, police determined they weren't involved in the Mercedes theft.
There were no reported injuries or weapons at the scene, DiCarlo said.
"Please remember to take precautions and always lock your vehicles and remove any valuable items," DiCarlo wrote to residents via Nixle. "As a reminder to residents, we have seen in the past that suspects involved in motor vehicle thefts, are oftentimes in possession of weapons and the stolen vehicles are most likely used to commit other serious, violent crimes."
