Middle School Student Standouts Honored

Frelinghuysen's finest praised for their leadership skills.

The Morris District Board of Education took time during their regular meeting on Monday to acknowledge a group of students from Frelinghuysen Middle School for their leadership skills.

According to Principal Mark Manning the students involved in the “I Got Your Back” program are a fantastic group of young men and women who are crucial in developing and maintaining a positive school environment.

“Involving students is critical in providing a positive social climate for children,” Manning said. “It gives them a vested interest in the program.”

Manning said that much has been accomplished in the five years that that the program has been in operation including a pair of educational videos to underscore the anti-bullying legislation and annual action plans that include school wide assemblies, house week activities and spirit week activities. They also use a form where they can report someone for a “caring certificate” if they exhibit and act of kindness.

According to Manning, as well as the program is working in the school, the success comes from home.

“I really need to thank the parents. These are lessons that are learned and behavior that is taught at home,” Manning said. “It is my pleasure to thank them for all that they do help make Frelinghuysen the school that it is.”
