North Jersey Cop Slapped, Choked Woman Who Rebuffed Him, Reports Say

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Morris County police officer faces several charges after reportedly harassing, stalking, and eventually assaulting an Essex County woman.

Gregory M. Dietz, 34, is a patrol officer with the Florham Park Police Department. According to NJ Court records, he was charged with second-degree aggravated assault, fourth-degree stalking, harassment, and trespassing on July 19.

Public records show Dietz was sworn in as a police officer in Florham Park in 2019, and currently roughly $103,000 a year, public records show.

According to an affidavit obtained by NJ.com, a Roseland woman told police she met Dietz in June 2025 and that he sent her “multiple inappropriate text messages” even though they were not in an intimate relationship.

After months of harassment, both virtual and in-person, the woman told Dietz she never wanted to see him again and blocked him, according to the report.

Dietz showed up at her home, entered, was denied a kiss, and “slapped the victim in the face and grabbed her with two hands, applying pressure to her neck, causing her to black out,” according to records obtained by NJ.com.

It’s not clear if Dietz has been suspended by the Florham Park Police Department since he was arrested. He is still listed as a patrol officer on the department's website.

Florham Park Chief of Police Karl E. Svenningsen told Patch.com, “At this time, we do not have any comment as this is an ongoing investigation.”

Dietz is represented by Orange-based attorney Marco Laracca of Bio and Laracca P.C. Laracca was not immediately available for comment.
