Morris Co. Cop Warned Suspect Before Police Raid, Officials Say

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Morris County police officer has been criminally charged after warning a potential subject about an upcoming police operation, prosecutors said.

Rockaway Police Officer Donald J. Reddin, 34, of Wharton, faces obstruction and drug charges months after his alleged involvement in a police raid.

According to officials, Reddin warned a subject about an upcoming law enforcement operation in Rockaway on March 12.

Specifically, Reddin preemptively told the man, whose identity wasn't disclosed by prosecutors, "not to leave his residence due to police activity in the area," officials said.

Prosecutors said Reddin's warning "negatively affected the execution of a search warrant during an investigation."

On Monday, Reddin was charged with obstruction of a government and conspiracy to distribute controlled dangerous substances (CDS). Authorities did not provide specifics on what prompted the drug charges or details on the police operation itself.

Reddin was processed and released to await court proceedings. He is currently suspended without pay by the Rockaway Police Department, prosecutors said.
