Spotlight Is On Morris County's Revolutionary Role As PBS Series Airs Wednesday

During her "Revolutionary Road Trips" series in NJ, host Darley Newman visits several historical sites and museums in Morris County.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Local history lovers will be tuned in to PBS on Wednesday night for a "Revolutionary Road Trips" series featuring multiple Morris County landmarks and historic places.

The latest "Travels with Darley" season focuses on several significant locations across New Jersey, also known as the Crossroads of the American Revolution, in three half-hour episodes.

The series spotlights key places in the Garden State where famous figures visited, as well as significant battlefields, parks, museums, and encampment sites. Viewers will learn about historic pubs, restaurants and homes George Washington and Alexander Hamilton visited, as well as key battlefields, parks, museums and encampment sites.

The episode featuring Morris County (and the Monmouth Battlefield) will air on NJ PBSin primetime on Wednesday, March 13 at 8:30 p.m. and will repeat at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 24.

Host Darley Newman visited multiple sites in Morristown with connections to the Revolution — including the Morris Museum, the Ford Mansion and Jockey Hollow, the Washington’s Headquarters Museum, the Schuyler Hamilton House, the Mayo Performing Arts Center, and the Morristown Green.

She also raises a glass with Glenbrook Brewery co-owner Darren Cregan and stops by the Grain House Restaurant, located in the place where George Washington stored grains for his troops. The episode ends with a toast at The Black Horse Pub and Tavern in Mendham.

Newman also shares local spots where you can taste history through unique New Jersey products like Revolutionary Beer and Laird’s Applejack in Monmouth County, America’s oldest family of distillers.

The first episode in the three-part series, featuring Princeton, Trenton, and Washington Crossing, aired March 6 at 8:30 p.m. The third episode, which features sites in Middlesex and Somerset Counties, is March 20 at 8:30 p.m.

Newman has been globetrotting for the past 15 years, from Botswana to Belgium to Bowling Green, Kentucky, highlighting lesser-known destinations for travelers to explore.
