Women Build Week will be held Aug. 16 to Aug. 19.

The Morris County Habitat for Humanity is hosting a Women Build Week Aug. 16 to Aug. 19. where Morris women can volunteer building two homes on Harding Avenue in Dover.

The Women Build is a program run by Habitat for Humanity to teach women from all different backgrounds how to take action against poor housing conditions that so many women and children face around the world.

The program strives to empower women and introduce them to skills they might not have. Women are taught basic construction skills and how to assemble secure, affordable housing. There are around 450 Women Build projects each year with 40,000 participants all over the country.

The second project was in May 2016. The volunteers built four single-family homes on Harding Avenue in Dover. Each home was the same size, but the floor plans varied depending on the size of each family. One home had four bedrooms, two homes had three bedrooms, and one home had two bedrooms.

Some highlights of the homes are that they are handicapped accessible and ENERGY STAR certified for energy efficiency. The homes house families who have a low or moderate income level.
