MORRISTOWN, NJ — The Morris Educational Foundation (MEF) announced on Tuesday the hiring of its first full-time executive director, Joelle Servais, a Morristown High School graduate with 25 years of nonprofit experience.

Servais takes over for Chrissie Wetherbee, who stepped down as part-time director in October after seven years in various roles.

With a focus on youth development and social justice issues, Servais most recently served as the Director of Development and Communications at The Liberty Fund, New York City’s first city-wide charitable bail fund.

According to officials, Servais joins the MEF at a pivotal time.

“One exciting project on the horizon is the 50th Anniversary of the Morris School District’s historic formation,” Servais said. “I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to educate the entire community about the District’s historic beginnings and create next steps for its continued success.”

Servais is joined on staff by Caroline Godfrey, who was promoted to Associate Executive Director in Nov. 2021; Nubia Gomez (MHS '06), who started as Bookkeeper in Dec. 2021; and Laurie Pepitone, who has been the Director of Marketing and Communications for over two years.

“On behalf of the MEF board as well as our constituents, I’d like to welcome Joelle to the MEF family. Coincidental with the MEF’s 30-year anniversary, we are confident Joelle’s joining the MEF will be instrumental in elevating the organization to new heights,” said Hector Mislavsky, chairperson of the Morris Educational Foundation.

The MEF is a non-profit organization that improves educational opportunities for over 5,700 students in the Morris School District's ten schools. The mission of the MEF is to generate and distribute financial and other resources to and for the Morris School District for enrichment programs and other projects aimed at improving educational quality and educational opportunities for students.

The MEF was able to donate $346,300 in grants in the 20-21 school year alone, according to the organization.
