Morris Street To Be Named 'Gov. Chris Christie Way'

The Central Park of Morris County Road will break ground on a new access road named after Mendham resident Gov. Chris Christie on Monday.

MORRIS, NJ — A new central access street into Central Park of Morris County will have its groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, and will receive its official name: Governor Chris Christie Way.

Christie and his wife, Mary Pat, will be on hand for the Monday afternoon groundbreaking and sign unveiling ceremony, alongside officials from the Morris County Freeholders and park commission.

The Christies have lived in Mendham Township for over 20 years, including the eight he spent as governor. Christie served as Morris County Freeholder between 1995 and 1997.

Governor Chris Christie Way will run from run from West Hanover Avenue in Parsippany to Central Avenue, the main road through the park, and is designed to alleviate traffic from surrounding neighborhoods.

“We know that the residents of Morris Plains have been seeking relief from traffic that cuts through their neighborhoods to get to what has quickly become a very popular and busy county park,’’ said Freeholder Doug Cabana said when the road was approved in late 2016.

“We look forward to adding this new road to allow for improved access to our current Central Park facilities and with the least impact on our residential neighbors,’’ Park Commission Executive Director David Helmer said at the time.

Central Park of Morris is a 299 acre park in the heart of Morris County with ice skating rinks, sand volleyball, an amphitheater, and more. You can read more about what the park has to offer here.
