Morristown Accepting Applications For Engineering Position

MORRISTOWN, NJ — The Town of Morristown is seeking applications for an open position within its Engineering Division. The role involves performing field and office engineering work related to the design, maintenance, and construction of municipal infrastructure.

Under the direction of the Town Engineer, the selected candidate will contribute to projects involving roadways, storm and sanitary sewers, municipal parks, and facilities. Tasks will include survey work, cost estimating, drafting, mapping, and design of improvements to required standards. The position also entails preparing plans, specifications, and details, along with construction inspection and cost monitoring.

Applicants are expected to exercise considerable judgment and discretion to ensure the successful completion of municipal projects. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary, as is the ability to effectively communicate with citizens. The candidate will also coordinate with other municipal departments and outside agencies and prepare grant applications.

A minimum of two years of civil or municipal engineering experience is required for the role. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited university is also necessary, unless substantial municipal experience beyond the two-year minimum can be demonstrated. Specific technical skills are also required.

Candidates must possess strong construction estimating skills, familiarity with municipal regulatory and permitting processes, and AutoCAD civil drafting skills. Experience with GIS and land surveying is preferred. Professional certifications such as E.I.T., P.E., or P.L.S. are considered a plus.

The salary range for the position is $70,410 to $81,314, depending on qualifications.
