Morristown High School Boys Lacrosse Ties Montville in Overtime

The scrimmage went to double overtime, but ended even, 6-6.

The Morristown Colonials boys lacrosse team did not treat their match against Montville Township High School on Friday like a scrimmage, instead playing intense lacrosse throughout the preseason game, all the way through to double overtime, where the game ended tied at six.

Earlier this week, the Colonials boys lacrosse team played with a similar level of intensity, dominating Boonton High School to a 19-0 victory, but on Friday against Montville, things went differently.

Morristown was the first to score when Brian Bagley hit the net with 11:15 left in the first period, followed by a second Colonials goal by Steve Delargey with 1:01 left in the first, but Montville was quick to respond when Jake Haimson scored with 11:54 left in the second period. By halftime, though, thanks to a goal by Morristown's Connor Dolan, the Colonials went into the break holding a 3-1 lead.

Montville struck first in the second half, lessening the gap with a goal by Mike Mayse with 11:48 left in the third quarter. After going back and forth for the remainder of regulation, Montville's Andrew Reynold's tied to game at six with only 1:48 left.

After two scoreless overtimes, the coaches decided to call it a day.

"I felt that our boys played hard to the very end today," said Morristown coach Jeff Bigas. "Overall I think we did good but we need to work on our shooting and gel more as a team."

Morristown finished last season 15-2 and made it to the state semi-finals. This preseason, they've continued to play winning lacrosse.
