Morristown Considering Direct Bussing During Amtrak Repairs

The town is looking for commuter's input on the possibility of direct bussing.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — With major service changes on the horizon for Morristown commuters going into New York City, the Town of Morristown is considering implementing direct bus service.

A final decision has yet to be made, and the town is currently collecting opinions from affected residents in a survey. The short questionnaire asks about interest in the service, if commuters would be willing to pay, and best timing.

During major Amtrak repairs scheduled between July 10 and Sept. 1, all Midtown Direct trains will terminate at Hoboken-- meaning commuters will have to use another way into New York City. Tickets would be discounted between 50 and 63 percent during the time, but critics say that doesn't make up for the additional commuting time.

Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty has spoken out about the proposed changes.

“Residents in our area have come forward with their concerns about how the proposed fare discounts will not compensate for the time taken away from their families and loved ones this summer,” said Dougherty.
