Morristown Designated An 'Up And Coming' Healthy Town
The award highlights NJ towns that have 'taken to make their communities healthier places to live, work, and play.'
MORRISTOWN, NJ — The Mayors Wellness Campaign honored several New Jersey municipalities with "healthy town" awards. For the second year straight, the campaign placed Morristown in its list of "Healthy Towns Up-and-Coming."
The award highlights New Jersey towns that have "taken to make their communities healthier places to live, work, and play," according to the Mayors Wellness Campaign. The MWC represents a statewide community-health initiative, designed to provide evidence-based tools and strategies for mayors and community leaders to help residents improve their overall health.
Each year, communities participating in the Mayors Wellness Campaign submit a comprehensive "healthy town application" to highlight their research on community-health needs and explain how they organized their local MWC committee.

The campaign honored Morristown, because "the town has an extensive network of partners working to provide programs that include local businesses, health systems, nonprofits, and houses of worship." Activities offered last year included a senior holiday meal program, several vaccine clinics, brain-health classes for older adults, health-education classes for youth and exercise classes for older adults.
"Being honored as a 2021 New Jersey Healthy Towns Up and Coming is a great distinction and further proof of Morristown’s commitment to a healthy lifestyle," said Mayor Tim Dougherty. "From extensive healthy cuisine options that pepper our town to the various outdoor and indoor community activities and all of our parks."
