Morristown Doctor Needs A Kidney Donor

After years of helping others through their medical troubles, Dr. Marc Rubman is looking for someone to help him.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Dr. Marc Rubman has made a career out of helping others as an orthopedic surgeon at Morristown Medical Center. Now, Rubman needs your help finding a new kidney.

Rubman has autosomal dominant PKD, a disease that causes cysts on kidneys and eventually causes them to fail. Rubman's kidneys failed in 2015, and since then he's had one removed and a failed kidney transplant, leading him to undergo dialysis for 12 hours a week, his sister wrote on a website called Marc's New Kidney.

Rubman's mother, who has since passed away, and one sister also have PDK. Another sister does not have the condition, but is unable to donate and created the website to help Rubman, the Daily Record reported.

Because of his failed transplant, finding a match will be much harder for Rubman. Most of his family is unable to donate because PKD is hereditary, so he's asking others to register as living kidney donors.

Most humans are born with two kidneys, but can live just fine with one. Living donors have a higher success rate than those from a cadaver, which takes nearly eight years to receive.
