Morristown Girl Scouts Travel The Globe For World Thinking Day

The girls researched and showcased 11 different countries.

From Morristown Service Unit of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey: Since 1926, Girl Scouts have been reaching across the globe spreading international friendship on February 22nd through World Thinking Day. The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), in which the Girl Scouts of the USA are members, consists of over 10 million members located in 146 countries. This year on February 25, Micaela Cassidy, Angelissa Gutierrez, and Seleyna Bautista of Cadette Troop 94923 hosted World Thinking Day for over 100 Morristown Girl Scouts who came together to celebrate this amazing day. After choosing countries to represent, the girls researched and planned their displays to showcase 11 countries: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, India, Philippines, Scotland, Spain, and Trinidad & Tobago. On the day of the event, the crowd enjoyed learning about each country through making a craft, sampling local foods, playing a musical instrument, watching slideshows, and more.

The event also presented a panel discussion with two dynamic young women here in the US through the AFS Intercultural program: Arachaporn “Chompooh” Putthakhin from Thailand, living in Morristown, and Asja Alispahic from Bosnia, living in Warren. High schoolers Chompooh and Asja shared their experiences of living in their home and host countries and championed the thought that we are more alike than different, no matter from where we hail.

Overall the event was a huge success in creating an outstanding international experience for everyone!
