Morristown Honored For Fueling Food Pantry

Morristown along with Mayor Tim Dougherty and his wife Mary were honored at Tuesday's meeting of the mayor and council when representatives of Morris County Chapter of Links, Incorporated presented them with a certificate honoring the work done last year to benefit the Interfaith Food Pantry.

"The mayor and first lady were integral in assisting with our food drive and we were able to raise over 4,000 pounds of food," Chapter President Kelly Whiting said. "We didn't know at the time but it was right before Hurricane Sandy and we were very pleased to help out in a dire situation." 

Whiting said that her chapter is currently in the second year of their food drive and hopes to receive continued support from the community.

On Oct. 19 and 20 we are collecting food at the Stop & Shop in Morris Plains and on the Oct. 26 we have a drop off location at Milleli's Auto Repair," Whiting said.

Items needed are:

  • Turkey, ham or large chicken
  • Turkey gravy
  • Stuffing
  • Instant mashed potatoes
  • Cereal
  • Pasta
  • Canned vegetables
  • Hearty Soups
  • Coffee or tea
  • Apple, cranberry or other 100 percent juice
  • Salad dressing
  • Roll of muffin mix
  • Brownie or cake mix
  • Nuts
  • Parmalat or powdered milk
  • Canned fruit
  • Pickles
  • Mini-marshmallows
  • Jello or pudding
