Morristown Man, Police Save Baby Deer From Storm Drain

Braving the tight squeeze, and possibly Pennywise, they effected rescue.

MORRISTOWN, NJ - Braving the tight squeeze, and possibly Pennywise, two police officers and an alert citizen saved a baby deer from inside a storm drain Friday.

According to police, Greg Steinman discovered the deer and helped contact police. Officers Little, Poplawski, and Appel discovered a baby deer that was trapped upside-down, stuck inside the storm drain by its legs.

As officers began to quickly work to get the animal free, Steinman had the idea of using one of his bedsheets as a safe hook around the animal. Working together, they were able to secure the deer and get it safely removed from the storm drain.

By that time, our Animal Control Officer had arrived and was able to get the baby to a local vet as it appeared that it was suffering from some leg injuries. After being checked out, the little one was returned to where she was found. After a few minutes of calling out, her mother came for her and the family left together.

"We wanted to extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Steinman and the rest of the community who helped in freeing this little deer and getting it off to the vet safely," police said in a statement.
