Morristown Medical Center Ranked Among Top 50 U.S. Hospitals

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Morristown Medical Center is one of the 50 best hospitals in the United States, according to a new ranking by Healthgrades.

The annual ranking released by Healthgrades, an online health care information company, placed Morristown Medical Center among the top 1 percent of nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide.

This is the seventh straight year Healthgrades has recognized Morristown Medical Center. But this is the first year that measures data in the first year of the pandemic — 2018-20.

“To achieve this consistent level of excellence for seven consecutive years reassures our communities that we are completely dedicated and focused on providing the highest quality standards, coordination of care, and the best possible patient outcomes,” said Dr. Trish O’Keefe, the hospital's president. “We are especially proud of our dedicated medical staff and clinical team members who consistently provide extraordinary care in a safe, healing environment for our patients and their loved ones, even through a pandemic that has stretched on for nearly two challenging years.”

Overlook Medical Center in Summit, which is also a part of the Atlantic Health Center, placed in the top 1 percent, as well. Three New Jersey hospitals made the top 250: Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (Livingston), Jersey Shore University Medical Center (Neptune City) and Valley Hospital (Ridgewood).

To compile the ranking, researchers at Healthgrades looked at Centers for Medicare and Medicaid data between 2018 and 2020 for more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Researchers then analyzed how each performed across 31 commonly treated conditions and procedures including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, respiratory failure, sepsis and stroke.

Recipients of Healthgrades' 50 Best Hospitals are recognized for overall clinical excellence and providing consistent, top-quality care across a broad spectrum of disease and surgical specialties.
