NJ's Top Hospital’s Error Permanently Injured Girl, Lawsuit Says

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Morristown Medical Center, one of the top medical centers in the state, is facing a lawsuit after the parents of an underage girl said its staff overlooked a medical issue that has resulted in permanent damage.

Specifically, the family of the girl claims that the delayed diagnosis of appendicitis led to their daughter's ruptured appendix, multiple surgeries, and unnecessarily prolonged medical treatment.

According to the suit, the girl was admitted to the Morristown Medical Center, more specifically the Goryeb Children’s Hospital, last year.

During that time, the staff failed to properly diagnose her condition in a timely manner, failed to meet accepted medical standards of care, and improperly performed or interpreted radiology testing, according to the suit.

The combination of errors and oversights led the girl to suffer a ruptured appendix, which resulted in several surgeries, multiple hospitalizations, and permanent damage, the lawsuit reads.

The parents of the patient are seeking damages for their daughter’s injuries and suffering, medical expenses, future care costs, and emotional distress and losses they suffered.

Six doctors, Morristown Medical Center, and Atlantic Health Systems are among those listed as defendants in the suit.

Patch has reached out to Atlantic Health Systems representatives for comment, who were not immediately available.

The Morristown Medical Center has consistently been deemed one of the top medical centers in the state, and the northeast, for that matter.
