Morristown Retreat House Golf Outing Raises Vital Funds

27th Annual Loyola Jesuit Center Golf Outing

Eighty golfers teed off for a good cause on Monday, October 1, participating in the 27th Annual Loyola Jesuit Center Golf Outing in memory of Fr. Harvey Haberstroh, S.J. at Springbrook County Club in Morristown. This year’s event raised $30,000 which will help Loyola continue its Free Will Offering approach of accepting donations of any size for its retreats and providing retreats for the less fortunate, those combatting homelessness and addiction and those in recovery, at no charge.

Golfers enjoyed a picture-perfect day on the links, a delicious brunch, cocktail reception, dinner, silent and live auction and an awards ceremony. This year’s honoree was Dan Kraft of Livingston, a fifty-year retreatant and golfer whose love and dedication to the Loyola mission has transformed countless lives.

“We are blessed to have such loyal golfers and supporters each year,” said Renee Owens, Director of the Work, Loyola Jesuit Center. “We thank Springbrook Country Club (SBCC) for hosting our event for the first time this year. Springbrook was the perfect site for our golf outing because the property used to be part of the original estate of Loyola Jesuit Center which was owned by Robert Foote. In 1921, Mr. Foote sold one-hundred and sixty acres to a group of Morristown businessmen who established SBCC, which then opened in 1922. In 1927, the remainder of his estate was donated to the Society of Jesus. Loyola Jesuit Center has been serving the community without ever turning anyone away for ninety-one years.”

The event was a major success thanks to the following sponsors: Event Sponsor -- Frank and Marianne Diassi of Far Hills; Mr. Diassi is the founder and chairman of two prominent businesses here in New Jersey, Unicorn HRO and Amerlux, LLC; Awards Sponsor -- Walter Pardo, coordinator of Ignatian Retreats at Loyola for those combatting homelessness and addiction; Beverage Cart Sponsor -- Jim and Colette Mongey, founders of Dublin Pub in Morristown; Special Sponsor -- Nancy Singer of Warren, in memory of her husband, Sam Singer, golfer and Loyola board member; Special Sponsor -- J.R. Prisco, Inc. General Construction and Engineering in Summit and Putting Green Sponsor -- MP Consulting Services, LLC in Wall Township and Swedesboro.

“While modern technology has brought countless innovations into our lives, Americans continue to work longer hours than ever before; take fewer vacations; spend less time with their families and devote a minute fraction of that time for themselves to reflect on what is really important. So we thank our generous sponsors for supporting an institution like Loyola, which opens its doors to all, as a tranquil place for self-reflection, spiritual healing and support. It is this type of renewal that builds stronger families and communities.”
