Morristown Surgeon Featured On 20/20 Segment About Doctors With Disabilities
Dr. Christopher McCulloh is featured for his work as a surgeon who lives with a disability.
MORRISTOWN, NJ ā Dr. Christopher McCulloh, a third year resident at Morristown Medical Center, is first and foremost a surgeon. But he also lives with a spinal cord injury and uses a state-of-the-art standing wheelchair while preforming surgeries, something that will be featured on ABC's 20/20 this Wednesday night.
McCulloh is featured alongside other doctors with disabilities on the news program special, meant to promote ABC's new show The Good Doctor, about a surgeon with autism.
McCulloh, a general surgery resident at the hospital, uses a standard wheelchair most of the time, but uses a specialty Levo C3 standing wheelchair while he operates.

"I think the big advantage to being, you know having a disability, especially one that's visible is that I can use it to connect with patients, they can see it and know I've been in the bed before, I've been through procedures. I can tell them I know what it's like to go through this," McCulloh said in an interview with the hospital in 2013. He said he performs the same duties as his traditionally abled coworkers.
You can learn more about McCulloh and other doctor's influenced by their experiences with disability when 20/20 airs Sept. 13 at 10 p.m on ABC. Morristown Medical Center is a part of Atlantic Health System.
