Morristown Woman Identified in Fatal Apartment Fire

Cause of blaze deemed accidental, prosecutor says.

A Morristown woman has been identified as the one fatality in a structure fire that blazed on Pine Street Monday night into Tuesday morning, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp announced.

Kelly Smith, 31, a resident of the multi-apartment residence, died as a result of the fire, Knapp said. The cause of the fire was deemed accidental and “does not appear to be suspicious,” Knapp said.

No charges are being filed at this time.

A total of 11 tenants resided in the building at 15 Pine Street at the time of the fire. Police and firefighters were called to the scene at 11:29 p.m. and found the building engulfed in flames. The building is home to five separate apartments on three floors.
