Murder Suicide in Morris Plains An 'Isolated Incident': Prosecutor

The identities of the two killed have not yet been released.

MORRIS PLAINS, NJ — Morris County officials are calling Saturday morning's murder-suicide an "isolated incident," saying there is no threat to the rest of the community, according to a statement by Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp.

A 28-year-old woman was found dead outside of the The Highlands at Morris Plains Apartments on The Buckley Way in Morris Plains just after midnight on Saturday morning, after nearby residents reported gunshot sounds.

The body of a 32-year-old man was found over the border in Morris Township near the apartment complex. The mayor of Morris Plains told the Daily Record that a suspected murderer ran out of the apartment and shot himself.

Officials have not yet released the cause or manner of death, and the identities of those killed are being held pending family notification.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office – Major Crimes Unit, Morris Plains Police, Morris Township Police, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office – Criminal Investigation Section and the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office all responded.
