Northwestern Cares Forges Partnership with Community Soup Kitchen & Outreach Center
Northwestern Mutual Philanthropic Committee Supports Community Soup Kitchen & Outreach Center

Morristown, NJ – August 31, 2017 – When the Community Soup Kitchen & Outreach Center needed extra funds to help transition two homeless guests to permanent housing, it turned to its new philanthropic partner for help.
Northwestern Cares – the philanthropic division of Northwestern Mutual’s Holleran Group – did not disappoint. The Morristown-based organization readily donated $2,000 to assist with the CSK’s urgent need.
The two CSK guests, a 62-year old woman who has lived on the streets for more than two decades and a middle-aged disabled Veteran struggling to find affordable housing, will benefit from Northwestern Care’s gift. Both guests had received housing vouchers from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, but needed additional money to cover start-up costs, such as security deposits and the purchase of furniture and household items.

“This donation will directly impact the lives of two of our guests and help them to move forward,” said Nancy Rudgers, CSK director of development. “Support from corporations like Northwestern Cares is crucial for us to meet the needs of our guests. We’re especially grateful to Matthew Holleran, the manager partner, for his generous support, and look forward to future collaborations.”
In addition to the recent gift, Northwestern Cares has supported the CSK through its Sponsor of the Day program, where a company contributes $2,500 and its employees volunteer for a day. Northwestern Cares also provided 50 backpacks filled with school supplies for local middle-grade children.

“Every day Northwestern Mutual helps people secure their futures and reach for their dreams, but for many people their future is in jeopardy,” said Mr. Holleran. “It’s imperative to us at Northwestern Mutual to reach out and help shape a stronger world, one life at a time.”
