Prosecutor: Man Found Dead on Bench at Morristown Post Office

No threat to the community at this time, authorities said.

A middle-aged man was found dead on a bench in the front of the Morristown Post Office Saturday and police are still searching for details, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp announced.

Police were alerted to the scene on a report of an unresponsive male at 1 Morris Street at 8:26 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, Knapp said. When they arrived they found a 54-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, deceased on the bench.

Investigators from the United States Postal Inspection Service responded to the scene as it occurred on post office property, and are conducting the investigation in conjunction with the Morristown Police Department.

The incident does not look suspicious, Knapp said, and there is no threat to the community. Next of kin is being notified.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the United States Postal Inspection Service, Morristown Police, or Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
