Queen Drummer, Ex-Eagle, Loggins & More To Headline MPAC

Slate of performances set for September.

In just two short months, the Mayo Performing Arts Center will have acts from artists of all sorts of genres, from pop to rock, and even parody.

The following artists will be performing on the stage of the nonprofit organization in September (dates and blurbs provided by Ed Kirchdoerffer, office manager):

  • The Queen Extravaganza: Sept. 11 at 8 p.m.
Produced and sanctioned by Queen drummer Roger Taylor, this performance will be a nine-piece band with four vocalists, which perform ‘uncanny’ versions of Queen hits. Said Taylor of the band’s essence, “Nobody does our music better.” Tickets are $39-$59.
  • Don Felder: An Evening at the Hotel California: Sept. 13 at 8 p.m.

Don Felder, the former lead guitarist of The Eagles, who co-wrote the iconic “Hotel California” and whose guitar work can be heard on “Life in the Fast Lane” and “One of These Nights,” will be performing Eagles favorites along with music off of a new release, titled Road to Forever. Tickets are $39-$69.

  • Kenny Loggins with the Blue Sky Riders: Sept. 14 at 8 p.m.

Loggins, one of the best-selling artists of the 1970s and 1980s, will be performing a night of hits such as “This is It,” “Footloose,” “Celebrate Me Home,” “Heart to Heart,” “I’m Alright,” “Danger Zone” and more. Tickets are $59-$79.

  • Jay Black: “An American Original”: Sept. 21 at 8 p.m.

Jay Black, a legendary voice in the music business, will be at MPAC to play classic hits such as “Only in America,” “Come a Little Bit Closer,” “Cara Mia,” “This Magic Moment” and “Walkin’ In The Rain.” Tickets are $39-69.

  • Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience – A Parody by Dan and Jeff: Sept. 26 at 8 p.m.

Each Harry Potter book will be condensed into just one 70-minute skit of knee-slapping humor. And a real-life Quidditch game just might form! Even those who are not Potter-fanatics will get a kick out of the show, as you’ll leave booming with laughter. For ages 6 and up, tickets are $29-$49.

  • Tower of Power and War: Sept. 27 at 8 p.m.

Tower Power, a horn section that is regularly demanded by some of rock’s biggest acts, will be putting forth a live act of its brass and soul sound. Also, 1970s bluesmen War will perform classics such as “Low Rider,” “The Cisco Kid,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” and “Spill the Wine.” Tickets are $49-$89.

  • The Waterboys: Sept. 28 at 8 p.m.

Since 1981, The Waterboys (founded by Mike Scott) have been mixing Celtic folk music and rock. Today, some consider them similar to The Decemberists and The Pogues. They’ll be performing music off of their iconic “Fisherman’s Blues” and also music set to the poems of William Butler Yeats. Tickets are $39-$59.
