MORRISTOWN, NJ — Activists are planning to hold an abortion rights rally in Morris County following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

The protest will take place on June 24 at 6 p.m., according to organizers. It will be held at the Morristown Town Hall, 200 South St. The rally is being hosted by Morris County Democrats, Morristown elected officials, and supporters.

"Democracy depends on equal rights for all people. Losing our right to reproductive choice would open the door to the loss of other freedoms like marriage equality, contraception, and gender-affirming care. The attack we have seen on voting rights is an attack on democracy. The attack on reproductive choice is a continuation of silencing people in this country," event organizers said.

With the decision, it will be up to states to decide the future of abortion within their own borders.

In New Jersey, abortion access is protected by state law via the Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act, which Gov. Phil Murphy signed earlier this year.

"As the mother of two adult children, there is no more deeply personal decision than becoming a mother. That is a decision for a woman to make, not for government intrusion," said Mendham Township Committeewoman Amalia Duarte.
