Randolph Cop 'Upholding Oath As Officer' During Cancer Battle

Police departments are rallying around Jeremiah "Reggie" Crowley, a Randolph officer with an aggressive form of cancer.

RANDOLPH, NJ — As a police officer, Jeremiah "Reggie" Crowley knows what its like to face tough obstacles and have to persevere through adversity. Now he faces a new battle outside of the police force: Crowley is battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Crowley, an officer with the Randolph Police Department, was recently diagnosed with stage IV malignant peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma, friend Michele Edelman said in a GoFundMe campaign. While undergoing cancer treatment at Sloan Kettering, he is still serving the residents of Randolph as an officer, Edelman said.

Policing in Randolph is special to Crowley: he was born and raised in town, and still lives there with his wife, Shannon, and their four-year-old daughter, Ryan. He previously worked in Morris Township.

"Officer Crowley pulled me over once for being over the speed limit on Sussex. I was hurrying home from work to my kids. I was running very late and needed to and to let our nanny leave on time so she could go to her night school. I remember being flustered and stressed - he was kind and friendly. He still gave me a ticket but then I had probably earned it!" one woman wrote, with a smiley face emoticon.

Another wrote, "I went to Randolph High School with Kathy Crowley and I met Shannon Crowley when we had breast cancer and were undergoing radiation therapy. I am sending positive thoughts and prayers to Reggie."
