Here's what you need to know as you begin the week in Morristown:

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Morristown traffic will be impacted by an ongoing water service replacement project on Washington Street, between Atno Avenue and the Morristown Green, until Wednesday, Aug. 24.

This work will begin on Monday, Aug. 22, between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., according to officials.

During the construction period, detours, road closures, limited access to facilities, and service interruptions are all possible. Members of the Morristown Police Department will assist and facilitate this work.

The project will replace approximately 6,200 linear feet of aging ductile iron water pipe as well as 96 valves. Along with the replacement of 19 fire hydrants and the replacement of aging water meters with new state-of-the-art technology.

"The 140-year-old unlined, cast-iron water mains in the Morristown area have reached the end of their useful life and are in need of replacement. If these facilities are not upgraded, the water mains and service connections in this area will continue to experience disruptive water main breaks that result in service interruptions to customers," SMCMUA said.
