Scammers Pretending To Be Morris County Police, Department Warns
If anyone calls claiming to be "Sgt. Joe Caruso from the Morris County Sheriff's Office," police advise all residents to hang up.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — The Morris County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a phone scam in which the caller is claiming to be a member of the department.
According to police, each time the caller informs the victim that they have a "failure to appear" warrant(s) and have the option of turning themselves in or paying a fine to avoid jail. The phone calls are from the phone number 973-291-2679, and an individual identifying themselves as "Sgt. Joe Caruso from the Morris County Sheriff’s Office," police said.
A subsequent investigation revealed that the phone number leads to a North Carolina address. Return calls to the number are routed to a voice mailbox for a "Sergeant Caruso."
