Schools Delayed, Possibly More Flooding As Storm Hits Morristown

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Morristown has already seen plenty of rain, causing delayed openings and the potential for flooding.

The Morris School District opened on a two-hour delay Tuesday, while the Morristown & Morris Township Library will open at 11 a.m.

The area received 3 inches of rain as of 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. And there could be another inch or two to come, according to the National Weather Service.

Several roads on the west side of Morris Township have some flooding, according to police. Whitehead Road and Washington Valley Road aren't passable as of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The agency included Morristown in a flood warning for river inundation, which will last until 4 p.m. Tuesday. The warning centers around the Passaic River, which has minor flooding in the forecast.

A flash flood watch will last until 5 p.m. Tuesday.

NJ Transit's Morris & Essex Line has faced issues. One train at Bernardsville — scheduled to head to Gladstone, Peapack and Far Hills — was canceled at 9:56 a.m. Tuesday because of weather conditions.

Here's the forecast for Morristown as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service:

• Tuesday: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 61. Northeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
• Tuesday night: Rain, mainly before 2am. Low around 52. North wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 61. North wind around 15 mph.
